ELG: Listening, Attention and Understanding

Kids who are right on track with listening and understanding!

They really pay attention when someone’s reading to them or chatting in class—no daydreaming off into space.

They’ll toss in questions or comments that actually fit what’s going on, not just random stuff.

If they don’t get something, they’re cool with asking for a bit more info.

And when it comes to chatting with teachers or other kids, they can actually keep a conversation going—like, real back-and-forth, not just “yes” or “no.”

Basically, they’re pretty switched on and happy to join in!

ELG: Speaking

Kids who are on track with speaking?

They’ll jump into group chats, class convos, or just one-on-one talks, tossing out their own thoughts and actually using some of those new words they just picked up.

They’ll throw out reasons for why stuff happens—maybe pulling in words they heard in a story, a poem, or even a random rhyme.

And when they talk about what’s gone down in their world, they’ll use proper sentences, stringing ideas together with words like “and” or “because.”
